Horaya Academy offers an individualized educational experience in a supportive and warm learning environment based on the principles of the Qur'an and Sunnah. The teachers we seek are practicing Muslims and embrace the challenges of living in The Gambia, while also recognizing the benefits. We seek experienced and certified educators, who are residents of The Gambia an are coachable and welcome and implement feedback. Having a track record of commitment, reliability and professionalism is a must. Experience with US Common Core standards and teaching in an American curriculum school is a plus.

Applications for employment require:

  • Letter of Introduction

  • CV/Resume

  • Contact details for three professional references – 2 must be direct supervisors from current/most recent positions.

  • Ability to produce teaching license/certificate and transcript or diploma for highest degree earned prior to hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that facilitate active learning. 

  • Present lessons in a comprehensive manner using a variety of learning styles as a means to facilitate learning

  • Provide individualized instruction to each student by promoting interactive student-centered classes.

  • Assess and record students’ progress and provide grades and feedback

  • Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom

  • Collaborate with other teachers, parents and stakeholders and participate in regular meetings

  • Plan and execute educational in-class and outdoor activities and events

  • Observe and understand students’ behavior and report suspicions of neglect, abuse etc.

  • Develop and enrich professional skills and knowledge by attending seminars, conferences etc.

  • Keep administration and stakeholders in the know of  the happenings of their classrooms by regularly taking photos and videos of students working in and out of class that will be showcased on our social media platforms and promotional materials.
